In anticipation of some sort of sporting event this Sunday, Disney is offering yet another commercial for a commercial with a glimpse at new footage from this summer's The Lone Ranger.

And maybe because a twenty-second tease of a piece of advertising feels a little insubstantial, the little sneak peek is accompanied by a brand new one sheet featuring Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp as the title character and Tonto, respectively.

Despite shedding many characters and even the director of previous three installments, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides still starred Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and, as such, grossed over a billion dollars globally.  So it was never a question whether we'd see another Disney adventure ostensibly based on the stupendous Disneyland attraction.  Rather, the question is when Pirates of the Caribbean 5 will arrive and what it'll be like when it does.

No news on the first count, but on the second, we now know that Jeff Nathanson is writing the screenplay.

It's the end of another year, and that means innumerable lists of the best movies to grace screens in 2012, as well as the continued talk of awards season.  With all that laudatory black-slapping for movies released over the last year, isn't it only fair that there's a list commending movies that haven't actually been made?

That would be the Black List, an annual compilation of screenplays that have yet to be produced.  The 2012 Black List has been announced, and it's the usual hodgepodge of fare that runs the gamut from clever to exciting, tiresome, and gimmicky, along with a few scripts that are headed to actual production.

Prepare to go west, ladies and gentlemen, as Disney has released a new full theatrical trailer for The Lone Ranger.

The trailer contains plenty of Johnny Depp as sidekick Tonto, but it mostly offers Armie Hammer a chance to shine as the title character, setting up his whole situation and giving a him a big heroic moment or two.  There's also lots of action, much of which is based on speeding locomotives.  Since this a movie from Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski, you can bet your ass that the trailer concludes with a huge, expensive looking bit of train mayhem.

When Tim Burton and Robert Downey Jr. consistently express interest in a movie, particularly one with a recognizable, easy-to-sell title like, say, Pinocchio, you can bet that a studio will put some work into getting the duo to actually make said movie.  In the case of Pinocchio, that involves hiring Jane Goldman to rewrite the script according to their specifications.

Opening in NY and LA theaters, as well as on VOD on October 19th is the new comedy from actress-turned-director Carrie Preston (HBO's True Blood) and actress-turned-writer Kellie Overbey (Outbreak) called That's What She Said. The film is based on Overbey's stage play Girl Talk, which was directed by Preston and starred actress Marcia DeBonis (The Dictator), who reprises her role from the play. In addition to DeBonis, the movie also stars acclaimed actress Anne Heche (Rampart) and Alia Shawkat (The Oranges).

IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Anne Heche to talk about her work on That's What She Said, as well as her overall career. The veteran actress discussed her new film, her unique character, how women really talk to each other, having the script recommended to her by Alec Baldwin, director Carrie Preston's vision for the project, working with actress Alia Shawkat, the advice that she has gotten over the years from Johnny Depp, Madonna, and Harrison Ford, as well as singing with Dustin Hoffman and Willie Nelson; and watching Robert De Niro act with Woody Harrelson on the set of Wag the Dog

Yesterday, Disney dropped no less than seven official images from The Lone Ranger, next summer's tentpole action-adventure starring Armie Hammer as the eponymous masked hero and Johnny Depp as Tonto, who in the serialized character's hsitory was his sidekick.  The studio has followed up on those stills with three more looks at the western, along with the first The Lone Ranger teaser poster.

Though most of what we've seen from the film has consisted of blurry set photos, Disney has unveiled a whopping seven new official images from The Lone Ranger, showing off lots of Western action, Armie Hammer in the mask of the title character, and, most extensively, Johnny Depp as Tonto.
